Biomathematics

van Iterson's interest in the mathematics of biological structures seems to have been "put on hold" during his time as a Professor. Although he has left behind a large collection of drawing and notebooks containing wide-ranging calculations, his most important publications in the field were published at the beginning (with a paper on Fibonacci phyllotaxis) and end (with volume 1 of a series on new studies of leaf development) of his professional career. Subsequent volumes were not completed, although the archive contains manuscript versions and notes for some of the chapters.
