Beyond Bodmer.Public Understanding of Science
In 1985 the famous Bodmer report was released in the UK. Public Understanding of Science has been serious governmental policy since then.
Science communication as democratic and strategic element supporting national prosperity. The lay audience was supposed to have a ''basic understanding of statistics'' based on ''proper science education''. But Bodmer also wrote about the importance of industry and the impact of media.
This year the Bodmer report is among us for 25 years. Dr. David Bennet, a science communication specialist associated with the Kluyver Centre of the TU Delft, will critically reflect on what the Bodmer report meant to achieve in 1985, where we are right now and where we heading for. Bodmer beyond. Leading to a better understanding or engagement? We will find out.
