31 July 2015 by Communication TNW

Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands, the international BE-Basic consortium and the University of Campinas, SP, Brazil have joined forces in offering online education in biotechnology. In September, they will offer the course ‘Industrial Biotechnology’ for the second time on the edX platform for Massive Open Online Courses. Last year, the MOOC attracted more than 8.000 followers worldwide. The course starts on September 30, is free of costs and available for everyone.

In this six weeks course, top experts from both universities as well as guest lecturers from industry provide the insights and tools for the design of biotechnology processes in a sustainable way. They will teach about the basics of industrial biotechnology and how to apply these to the design of fermentation processes for the production of fuels, chemicals and foodstuffs. Throughout this course, students will be challenged to design their own biotechnological process and evaluate its performance and sustainability.

This course aims at students that study or have studied a relevant undergraduate level. The course is especially of interest for professionals in industry, government and NGO’s.

Students who successfully pass the assignments obtain the (free) honorary code. This time, they can also pursue a verified certificate.

Further information and enrolment go to edx.org.
