InterSECtion pitched at Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW)

There is no concrete event as yet, but a major step forward has been made. That was the outcome of a meeting held at the Ministry of OCW on 17 January. The Crash Team, the student advice agency of student association InterSECtion, together with several other parties, were given the opportunity to pitch an idea for a scientific communication event. The Crash Team had already visited the Ministry on 9 January, for a preparatory meeting and an extensive presentation.

Passion for science

The idea put forward by the Crash Team can be viewed as a kind of dating agency for science and the public, creating a passionate relationship between people and science. After filling in various preferences in an online environment, people from the general public are matched with different activities and items relating to science. These personalised recommendations may vary from interesting books and events to tours of companies. Moreover, information is given that covers the entire field of science, from research to product and from university to industry. A ‘passion for science’ card (wetenschapspassie) will provide admission and discounts.

Public communication

The aim of this concept is to present science as a discipline involving a large number of parties, all viewing it from different perspectives and communicating about it with the public. By showing the different parties and clarifying how their perspectives are interconnected, the public can gain a solid impression of the nature of science.

Follow-up

This fresh take on science by students was appreciated by all those present, and the Crash Team was invited to assist in the follow-up to the meeting. A select club will now continue to work on the development of an event, using the ideas presented as input.
