Maaike Kroon; best graduate TU Delft 2004/2005
28 November 2005 by M&CThe prize for the best graduate from Delft University of Technology in the 2004/2005 academic year has been awarded to Ms Maaike C. Kroon.
The Delft University Fund presented its annual awards to the best graduates from each of the eight faculties at a ceremony held on Friday 25 November. Maaike Kroon, winner from the Faculty of Applied Sciences, was then named as best graduate overall. She received a bronze statue and a cheque from the university''s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. J. T. Fokkema.
Kroon''s degree is in BSC Chemical & Biochemical Engineering, in which she followed the ‘ honours track’ in Innovation. Her graduation topic was ‘A Sustainable Production Method for the Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Industry’ and the title of her thesis was A Novel Environmentally Benign Approach to Combine Reactions and Separations: miscibility switches in ionic liquids. Her supervisor was Dr C. J. Peters.
In layman''s terms, this research focuses upon preventing the release of waste substances by the chemicals industry. A patent has now been obtained for the technology concerned and an article is being prepared for the journal Nature.
