Jack Pronk (BT) awarded Bachiene Prize
30 January 2007 by TNWToday | BTOn 18 January 2007 Dr Jack Pronk received the Bachiene Prize. This prize is awarded by the Thorbecke and Bachiene Foundation and is an incentive prize for academic work in the field of science.
The prize consists of a medal and 5000 Euro. Jack Pronk has received the prize for his work over the last eight years on the genetic modification of baker’s yeast (saccharomyces cerevisiae). His research has led to breakthroughs in the field of ethanol production from wood sugar (xylose).
These breakthroughs have made large-scale industrial production of fuel ethanol from waste flows in agriculture and forestry.
This is the first time that the Bachiene Prize has been awarded.
