xceptional performance
Mayor Jozias van Aartsen of The Hague handed the award to Van Loosdrecht during the annual "Lintjesregen" in the Diligentia Theater in The Hague. Van Loosdrecht received this prestigious award for his exceptional academic performance in the field of environmental biotechnology. The Royal Award Knight in The Order of the Netherlands Lion is given to people with merits of a very exceptional nature for society.
Combination
Van Loosdrecht has been recognized for his exceptional scientific achievements. He is unique in his approach to combine fundamental knowledge in the field of (environmental) biotechnology with the principles of engineering and design.
Water treatment processes
This has since 2003 led to a thriving international research group of over 50 people within the Department of Biotechnology of the TU Delft and an amazing number of innovative water treatment processes that have been commercialized. He has published 360 publications with a very high (citation) index of 52.
KNAW
In 2004 Van Loosdrecht was elected a member of the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences (KNAW).
