01 May 2006 by M&C TNWProfessor Ted Young has just been named as "Ridder in de Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw" (Knight in the Order of the Netherlands Lion) in the City Hall in Voorburg.
Ted Young received the award because of his unfailing devotion to the full breadth of education, research and administration at TU Delft. Ted Young was referred to in the announcement as ''an absolute gem for Delft University of Technology''. Not only was Ted recognised for the enormous contribution he has made in his professional career but also there was great admiration and respect for the wonderful individual that Ted is. From his position as an American working in the Netherlands, Ted has been able to use his drive, dynamism and humour to uniquely form his professorship, such that his appreciation of good Dutch traditions allows him to eloquently express criticism of less successful Dutch habits.
Further to the demanding role of his professorship, Ted Young is very active in the Liberal Jewish Community in the Netherlands. The value of his contribution to the reactivation of Jewish knowledge and cultural traditions has also contributed to him having this impressive honour bestowed upon him.
