CV Jakob Wallinga
|
Jakob Wallinga studied Physical Geography at Utrecht University where he graduated in 1997. He obtained his PhD in 2001 at the same university for his thesis ‘The Rhine-Meuse system in a new light: optically stimulated luminescence dating and its application to fluvial deposits’. Most of his PhD work was carried out during extended research visits at luminescence laboratories in Aberystwyth (UK) and Roskilde (Denmark). From 2002 Jakob works at RD&M section of the TUDelft as researcher/lecturer and director of the Netherlands Centre for Luminescence dating (NCL). He established a state-of-the-art luminescence dating (research) facility in Delft (see www.ncl-lumdat.nl ). Jakobs research aims at developing new and improved luminescence dating methods and using these for novel geological and archeological applications. Focus points of the research are young flood deposits and sediments older than ~150.000 years. Jakob received prestigious personal grants from the NWO innovational research scheme (VENI and VIDI) and a substantial apparatus grant to set up the dating facility. |
